IIRF (Indian Institutional Ranking Framework) – After 2010-12, there have been several changes in the field of education, from both the perspective of education providers and students. This is the era of 3.0 where the connectivity is maximum and that offers the opportunity for the user to interact and use the resources on their conditions. There is a lot of customization available for the user and more options to choose from, making the power shift from the producers to the consumers. Education is a service that has been traditionally done on the conditions and restrictions of the educational firms, teachers, and various other participants from the service providers’ side, and the students were supposed to follow the providers’ conditions to gain an education. But with the help of Web 3.0, students are now in a powerful position to control what they would like to study and how they will study.

This turnaround was not as simple as it looks in the current situation. You need to understand how things went from Web 1.0 to Web 3.0. Go through the full article to learn everything about their modern technology and the impact it has had on education and their surroundings.

What is Web 3.0?

Before understanding the concept of Web 3.0, one needs to learn about what the web is and how it actually performs. The Web is referred to as the “World Wide Web,” which provides websites and applications over the internet that can be used by the users. The human desire to connect with anonymous people over the internet leads to the concept of creating an interactive platform over the internet in which people can have access to the content, write their own information if they want to, and have the option to share it with people who are far away. All these technological growths didn’t happen at a sudden but they gradually moved from Web 1.0 to Web 3.0.

In Web 1.0, The information and the contents over the internet are hard to fetch, and the user can only read the information as it is given. The feedback was not popular at that time, and the web was not that interesting or attractive.

Web 2.0 uses a centralized database to supply and store the users’ data. It was active between 2000 and 2010.

In 2006, Tim O’Reilly first used the term “Web 3.0,” although it had taken 4 to 6 years from there to start the transition from Web 2.0 to this new era of modern systems. Now people call it by different names, like ‘semantic web’, ‘3D web’ or ‘spatial web’. The major difference between the previous versions of the Web and this one is that it provides users the opportunity to interact more freely than ever, now the content follows the user on the basis of their needs with the help of artificial intelligence and data science. Web 3.0 uses decentralized databases and blockchain technology.

Machines are being taught to behave like human beings to deal with modern problems and increase efficiency by reducing corruption. Web 3.0 is as user-friendly as a human could be. People think that there is a lot in Web 3.0 that is still to be explored, as the blockchain technology, and metaverse concepts are evolving quickly and will have a greater impact in the future.

What is the impact of Web 3.0 on Education?

There are changes that are currently happening in the education system. Who would have imagined that a pandemic of more than two years couldn’t halt the education system this is possible due to the Web 3.0 and the advancement in technology that helped the education firm to substitute the old traditional way with this modern online education system. Ed-Tech has turned out to be one of the most successful startups in the world, especially in India. India had completed 100 unicorn companies in May 2022 and leaded by the companies like Byjus which is currently the biggest ed-tech company in the whole world, followed by the unacademy, UpGrade, Physics Wallah, Khan Sir, and various other renowned teaching firms that opted to go for the online education and had got a huge amount of students that they would have never imagined.

Apart from the educationalists and other stakeholders, students also benefited from this revolutionary change, as they now have access to a good quality of education at a very low cost and without having to move to new places that automatically affect their indirect expenses on housing and dining.

Web 3.0 just democratized the education system by offering the same quality of education at a similar cost to students in every corner of the world. The education system has adopted web technology in the most efficient manner. This could lead to further steps in the near future with this kind of growth.

The technologies used under Web 3.0

Here are a few technologies that have evolved under Web 3.0 and are currently being used by most of the technologically based companies in every professional sector, as mentioned below.

Artificial Intelligence

Artificial intelligence is the most unique technology of Web 3.0 and is used by machines to understand human behavior and offer them better, customized services according to their needs.

Metaverse

Metaverse is another concept that is introduced in education to make interesting virtual classes and generate a better understanding of the subjects in the students’ minds. In the metaverse, people sitting at different places in the real world meet on a single virtual platform with their virtual avatars; this technology has been widely used in video games, and today, when it is blended with education, kids’ education becomes more interesting. Web 3.0 has turned the 2D screen into a 3D world with the help of technology now being used for better understanding of educational concepts.

Blockchain Technology

Blockchain technology is used by tech organizations for the security of financial transfers, voting, and other important things that have the risk of manipulation. This technology establishes trust in the minds of users that they are safe to share their personal information over the internet, and it is one of the most important technologies used in Web 3.0.

3D Graphics

The use of all three dimensions on a 2D screen has been made possible with this modern evolution of Web 3.0 technology. The education sector is the one that is going to utilize this technology widely in the near future, and it will help the students understand the subjects more practically.

Cryptocurrency

It’s an upgraded form of digital currency that doesn’t require any ownership and is one of the biggest technological assets of Web 3.0, in which people can send or receive money in the form of cryptocurrency from every corner of the world. One of the most famous cryptocurrencies is Bitcoin, which was invented in 2009 and was the first cryptocurrency of all time.

Decentralized Apps

Web 3.0 will be decentralized in contrast to the first two generations of the web, which had heavily centralized governance and applications. A distributed approach without a centralized authority will enable applications and services.

Decentralised Autonomous Organisations

DAOs are poised to potentially take on the role of Web 3.0’s organizing bodies, offering some degree of structure and governance while using a decentralized method.

The advantages of Web 3.0 in Education System

Traditionally, the education system used to be very fixed, as the students were required to follow certain restrictions, and there were a lot of hindrances to completing education at certain levels. Here, some of the advantages of Web 3.0 in the education system are mentioned below.

Personalized Learning

With the introduction of Web 3.0, students have the option to customize the content they want to consume in the education system. The students can study more things at the same time according to their interests and reduce the burden of unwanted subjects that traditionally used to haunt them.

No Boundaries

The education is moved out of the four-wall classrooms as now with the help of modern technologies students have the access to top-level education inside their homes. This will increase the chances of success for students.

Low cost

The major achievement of Web 3.0 is that with the ever-increasing cost of everything they made this possible to reduce the cost of good quality of education to students. This will ultimately lead the education industry to more profits by reducing the cost of investment.

Quality of Education

The students from a backward part of society can have the access to the best quality education with small electronic devices and several government initiatives that couldn’t have been imagined without the help of advancement in technology provided by Web 3.0.

Democratization of Education

Now anyone with better quality of education can start their educational firm with the lowest cost and can reach out to the maximum number of students with the help of Web 3.0. Education was previously a very costly business that used to be under the control of some specific elite group of people who had the money to run the business. Now everyone has shared power. If they have the knowledge and potential, then they have an equal opportunity to run a successful educational firm.

Higher Education while Working

Web 3.0 introduced several online learning programs that are now offering degrees for working professionals and looking at the current scenario various multinational companies also accept those degrees.

The post International Women’s Day: Let’s Empower the World with Motivation & Strength! appeared first on IIRF.

]]>
Celebration of International Women’s Day is unlike any other celebration. It provides an opportunity to reflect and cherish what women have achieved against all odds. We need not blind ourselves to the fact that it’s not an equal world. Deep-rooted and systemic patriarchal mind-set is still an integral part of India’s socio-cultural fabric. Women have had to work harder to break the glass ceiling and reach where they have reached today. Celebration of IWD also motivates hundreds and thousands of women who are still struggling and craving for respect and equality.

As is evident, women empowerment is still a distant dream, especially economic empowerment. Women account for nearly 50% of the population in India but they are just not well represented in most sectors. According to UN data, the share of women’s contribution to the GDP in India at 17% is far lower than the global average of 37%. India ranks 140 out of 153 countries in the World Economic Forum’s Global Gender Gap Report 2021.

And that points to the immense potential that can be unlocked through economic empowerment of women. According to the International Monetary Fund (IMF), equal participation of women in the workforce can increase India’s GDP by a significant 27%. Thus economic empowerment of women could be instrumental in realising the vision of a $5 trillion economy that much faster.

Empowering women economically also has wider social benefits. It is estimated that women spend 90% of their income on their families. As a result, economically empowered women positively influence the demand scenario in the country. Children of economically empowered women rank higher on educational and health parameters and thus help boost human development index.

Government of the day is running several schemes for economic empowerment of women, especially the MUDRA scheme that has been launched to support micro and small enterprises (MSMEs). Data shows that nearly 78% of the total number of borrowers under MUDRA are women.

Skill training plays a critical role in economic empowerment of women especially in the lower socio-economic strata. The vocational and technical training, even short-term trainings, can open flood gates for empowerment of women in a scenario where only 14% of women opt for careers as entrepreneurs. In its own way, RCPSDC has been helping women develop marketable skills and make a difference to their lives. For instance, a large number of women have received skill training in rubber tapping both in the traditional area of Kerala and the emerging Northeast of India. Rubber Nursery General Worker has been a favourite job role for women who wish to be independent and at the same time support the family financially.

Yes, when it comes to manufacturing, there is a subtle prejudice against women working in the shop floors. Manufacturing has been traditionally stereotyped as not being desirable for women. However, with assistance from the industry, RCPSDC has taken up-skilling of women in job roles such as Compression moulding operator or Injection moulding operator with very encouraging results. There is a long way to go and coming days and months will see more women taking up job roles hitherto reserved for men. There is an urgent need to deconstruct gender stereotypes and empower women through skill training. And no better time than now when the number of women ministers in the Union Government are at the highest in the last 18 years. Glass ceilings will soon shatter.
